From the state archives description: "First flight of the air mail express. Carrying the mail in the early days of overseas aerial flights was a precarious business and called for appropriate ceremonies upon completion of a successful flight. This historic picture was taken February 13, 1929, when Colonel Charles A. Lindbergh landed at Miami, Fla., with the first airmail from Panama. Lindbergh, center in helmet and dark suite, is shown just after stepping out of the Sikorsky S-38 amphibian he piloted on the historic flight. Photographed February 13, 1929. Personal subject: Lindbergh, Charles A. (Charles Augustus), 1902-1974."
