There was no story about this in the description. This Douglas DC-4, c/n 10435, was originally "Clipper Archer" and served in Pan American's fleet from 1946 to 1963.
The DC-4 had 44 seats, flew at 215 mph, had a 73,000 lb. max gross takeoff weight and a 2500 mile range. Pan Am used the DC-4 to replace its Boeing 314s on the California-Honolulu route which cut the flight time in half from 20 hours to 10 hours and the ticket price from $278 one-way to $195 one-way. The DC-4 marked the transition from flying boats to land based aircraft for overseas flights.
