They came out to greet us and get some warm sun before we invaded the aircraft to clean the interior on a turnaround flight from the frozen north (either Cleveland or Pittsburgh).
This was during the times of airline regulation and United's only authorized routes at the time were from Chicago-O'Hare, Cleveland, Buffalo, Rochester, Pittsburgh and Atlanta. They put DC-10's on the routes from Cleveland and Pittsburgh due to Miami's winter tourist season and heavier passenger traffic. The DC-10's were almost new in 1973 and beautiful inside and out.
