Gram was the mother of my father's girlfriend Irene Anthonsen and she retired in 1957 from a candy store she owned in Chicago. My father hired her to be our live-in housekeeper, nanny, and cook when we moved to Hialeah in June 1957. Unfortunately for me she was pretty strict and made me do crazy things, like mow the yard twice - once in each direction - because it "looked better." She baked almost daily and she was popular with the neighbors and their kids because of all the cookies that she freely passed out.
Gram went to live with her daughter, now Irene Anthonsen Elgie, in Miramar after my father's death in 1975. She died shortly after my first daughter was born in 1976. Rest In Peace, Gram. Thanks for the good memories and no thanks for the bad memories.
