1987 - Toni Tennille, the beauty of the Captain and Tennille, and Don Boyd

Auburn University, Opelika, AL

After attending a day's session of the Southeastern Airport Manager's Conference at Auburn University, we returned to our hotel and the absolutely gorgeous singer arrived at the same time because she was performing in a concert at her alma mater later that evening. Photo taken by Steve Ashworth, former Airfield Operations Manager at Palm Beach International Airport. (Steve, where are you now?)

The Captain and Tennille (Daryl Dragon and Toni Tennille) have earned an impressive five gold albums, six gold singles, two platinum albums and one platinum single. Along the way, the Grammy winning husband and wife duo created a very distinctive brand of pop music. A style that combines the dynamic vocal styling of Toni Tennille with the unique musical arrangements and versatile keyboard musicianship of Daryl Dragon. Together, they've landed on the pop singles chart 14 times, half of them in the Top 10. Still today, the twosome remains one of the top five duos of the past 15 years.

Toni and Daryl released their first album in 1974 and rocketed to stardom shortly thereafter, taking top honors at the 1975 Grammy Awards by winning Record of the Year for "Love Will Keep Us Together."

Captain & Tennille recorded numerous follow-up, hit singles after "Love Will Keep Us Together", including: “Muskrat Love”, “Shop Around”, “The Way I Want To Touch You”, “You’ve Never Done It Like That”, “Do That To Me One More Time”, "Come In From The Rain", and many others.

In 1976, the duo landed their own weekly variety television series on ABC, “The Captain & Tennille Show,” which was followed by three highly rated TV specials for the network. In 1980, Toni hosted her own daily talk show - the nationally syndicated “Toni Tennille Variety Talk Show.”

Toni continues to enhance her career by going “back to her roots” as she expresses it. At Auburn University in Alabama, she earned her way through college by singing the great standards of the ‘30s and ‘40s - backed by the full rich sound of the college’s big band, "The Auburn Knights."
