Spring 2000 - Airliners Magazine article on Don Boyd's retirement
Miami International Airport
This article was written by Phil Glatt and Jay Selman for Airliners Magazine on my retirement from MIA. Photo by Marie Clark Vincent, my favorite lunch buddy at MIA.
No I haven't Ray, it just doesn't appeal to me when I have so many photos that I want to get up onto the net before I croak. Our ARFF folks at MIA were the on-scene commanders for all the incidents and accidents and MDAD Airside Ops was only there to help out as needed, close the runway with the tower, get airline mechanics and reps out there, arrange for heavy equipment to move the aircraft, etc. I've saved a ton of paperwork from the job and maybe one day I'll write something but it's about priority Z at this time.
Don, have you ever written up your major memories from your time at MIA? Being into disaster management, I would be interested to get your take on disasters, near disasters, surprises, hurricanes, riots... anything memorable from your time at MIA. I'm sure there are some very interesting and educational stories.
