Thank you to Ken Wilde from the MiamiSprings Memories Facebook group for posting an old WTVJ video, now part of the Wolfson Archives, of this Lum's receiving a "Very Good" on their state health department inspection. This Lum's opened in the late 1950's as I recall and it was on the east end of the U-Tot-Em strip shopping center. Patrons would park on the vacant lot to the east of the restaurant when the parking lot filled up until they added a store or two to the end and a Goodyear Tire Store opened to the east of the strip center in the late 1960's. I freeze-framed the video to capture the above image.
Lum's built a much larger restaurant on the south of W. 49th Street, west of Palm Springs Mile around the 1300-1400 block, in the late 1960's/early 1970's. I ate there a few times in the early 70's and it lacked the ambience of the older smaller restaurant in the above image. My dad and I were fairly frequent visitors to the old Lum's starting when it opened because I loved the hot dogs steamed in beer, burgers and other items.
