Names "A" through "E" at the Veterans Memorial, but missing at least two Boyd's, in Ohio, Illinois (details below - scroll down)

North Main Street, Ohio, Illinois

My father John Milne Cary Boyd and one of my aunts, Norma Georgia Boyd, lived in Ohio helping produce The Ohio Herald, a local newspaper, with their mother (my grandmother) when World War II broke out and they both joined the military in early 1942. My grandmother couldn't produce the newspaper by herself so she sold their home on Jackson Street and moved to back to Michigan where she grew up and still had family.

My father served in the U. S. Coast Guard on a troop transport in the Pacific and as a recruit company commander at Manhattan Beach, New York. He left the Coast Guard after the war ended in 1945 as a Boatswains Mate First Class (BM1, E-6). He remained in the New York area until he and I moved to Miami in 1951. He maintained contact with his long-time friends in Ohio, specifically Mr. McDonald and Mr. Enright and I believe one of the Sislers (Gene?). One of his old friends, I think Mr. McDonald, came down to Miami in the early 1960's with his wife on vacation and they took me golfing with them at the Country Club of Miami and they let me drive the golf cart for 18 holes. I visited Ohio with my aunt in the early 1960's and with my first wife in 1970 and I will scan photos from those trips and put them up on this page in the future.

My aunt Norma served in the U. S. Marine Corps as an aircraft instrument repair technician at the Marine Corps Air Station in El Toro, California after boot camp and technical school. She was discharged from the Marine Corps after the war ended in 1945. My aunt taught school in central Illinois until she moved to Miami in 1947.
