The land in the left and middle foreground, below the "Future Amelia Earhart Regional Park", was annexed by the City of Hialeah sometime after this photo was taken and homes and schools were built. Amelia Earhart Elementary was built across the street from where the hangars once stood and Hialeah Junior High was built to the north of it on the same large plot of land.

Miami Municipal Airport was renamed to Amelia Earhart Field in 1947 to honor her because she took off from Miami Municipal Airport on her ill-fated flight around the world. The airport closed in the late 1950's and was used by drag racers on a lease permit. Eventually the south portion of the former airport ended up in the City of Hialeah's hands and the Hialeah Police Department's headquarters was built there. The northern portion of Miami Municipal/Amelia Earhart Field was auctioned off and warehouses and a large UPS sorting center are now there.
