1965 - Janice Dale in my Hialeah High Class of 1965

Hialeah, Florida

Janice and I both went to Palm Springs Junior High and Hialeah High School from 1960 to 1965. But I really didn't know her until we were in a class or two and we talked a lot during our senior year. Janice was a superb student with great grades while I was a slacker with B's, C's and D's in high school, mostly due to being tired from getting up at 3:45am to deliver a Miami Herald paper route before school. Janice repeatedly inspired me to do better academically and I've never forgotten her for doing so and for her encouraging remarks in my yearbook which I've read numerous times over the decades. I wish she had inspired me early on back at Palm Springs Junior High but I still managed to graduate with some improved grades.

Janice went off to the University of Southern Mississippi after our high school graduation. She never returned to Hialeah because she married early on in college and had two daughters plus her dad was promoted and transferred with the FAA to Dothan, Alabama in 1968 (photo and story at http://www.pbase.com/donboyd/image/159800697 ).

Over the decades I often wondered about her, where she ended up and how she was doing. I made numerous searches for her on the internet for probably ten years before I found her in December 2014 in a convoluted search on Facebook. Jan attended The University of Southern Mississippi, married the college quarterback, then dropped out of school and had two babies all before the age of 22. At 25 she returned to college and graduated from Mississippi College with a degree in Business. She taught high school/college sales & marketing classes for eight years and then spent the next 30 years selling college textbooks for Thomson Learning. After remarrying in 2007 she has a wonderful husband and family with two adult daughters and three grandchildren. She retired in 2013 and she has enjoyed following her three high school grandchildren as they performed in the #1 Show Choir in the country, The Clinton High School Attaché Show Choir. One grand-daughter just graduated from high school in 2015 and she will be entering a pre-med program at Mississippi College.
Life is great for Jan and her family, as it should be, and I am very happy for her.

Jan and I now exchange e-mails and Facebook messages to stay in touch and it has been great to reconnect with her after 50 years that went by in a blur.

Nice story, Don, and a nice ending ... some people we pass in life are retrospectively more important than we realized. She did good ... and so did you.
