OBITUARY FOR FRANK J. MEISTRELL, JR.

Frank J. Meistrell Jr. (Jay), passed away on October 11, 2014 at the age of 75. Frank was born in St. Louis, Missouri, but has resided in Florida since 1978.

He is survived by his wife Sonja, his children Jay, Kerry, Mimi and Courtney,
brother Keith, sisters Barbi, Dedi, and Fafa, stepdaughter Tracey, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren,
and his comforting pets Cassie, Scamp and Chico.

Frank retired from Miami-Dade College as Risk Manager and Adjunct Science Instructor in 2002.
He earned his Master’s Degree in Geology from University of Alberta, Canada.
He served six years in the U.S. Marine Corps and twenty six years in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve.

Frank met his wife Sonja in South Africa where he was studying at the University of Natal. They
were married in London in 1970. They have traveled extensively overseas, as well as in the
United States and Canada in their Airstream RV. Frank was an avid sailor and built a 48’ Ferrocement
sailboat, the Kyalami, which he and his family and friends spent many years enjoying.

He was also a ham radio operator (KE4TIL), a lover of literature, science, the earth and sea.
Frank spent his life expanding his horizons to learn about the world, never lost his sense of
wonder and his love of people. He was an adventurer, an encourager, a natural teacher. He
had a unique sense of humor and a love of the absurd.

All are welcome to attend a Celebration of Life for Frank at his place of residence at 2 pm on
October 25, 2014, to include a Circle of Prayer at 3 pm. Refreshments will be served.
