Hialeah High School Class of 1965 (HHS-1965) 50-year Reunion Information - held on May 1st, 2nd and 3rd, 2015

Miami Lakes and Hialeah

The best class ever at Hialeah High School celebrated their 50-year Reunion on May 1st, 2nd and 3rd, 2015. I was not a member of the reunion committee and only helped promote it on my site because I am a member of this class.

- - - - - - - - - - Here are the details of the 50-year Reunion: - - - - - - - - - -

WHEN: Friday, May 1st thru Sunday May 3rd, 2015

WHERE: Reunion Host Hotel - Don Shula's Hotel, 6842 Main Street, Miami Lakes - the reunion committee negotiated a $99 room rate for those identifying themselves as being with HHS-65. Normal room rates at the time were $149 and up. The Don Shula Hotel website is at: http://www.donshulahotel.com The Hotel reserved a room for the reunion committee's use to distribute name tags, programs and reunion information.

Friday evening, May 1st:

A dinner and cocktail party that included two adult beverages was held from 7:00 PM to 12:00 AM at the VIP Citation Room at beautiful Hialeah Race Track, 2200 E. 4th Ave Hialeah. We had a delicious dinner and the room was beautifully decorated by the reunion committee. Vivian Casals Munoz from Hialeah Park's staff, a member of the Hialeah city council, and a proud Hialeah High graduate, gave us a nice speech about Hialeah's and Hialeah Park's long history.

Saturday, May 2nd:

1st event: At 10:00 AM we enjoyed a walk through Hialeah High School from the totally rebuilt beautiful auditorium on the west end back to the old gym and locker rooms on the east end. The school appeared in need of paint and landscaping maintenance but there were many more mature trees in between the buildings to make the school more attractive.

2nd event: from 7:00 PM to 12:00 AM the Saturday evening dinner/dance was held at the new Milander Center for Arts & Entertainment, 4800 Palm Avenue, Hialeah (the site of the former Municipal Auditorium and later Milander Auditorium). The reunion committee arranged for the Mayor of Hialeah to speak to us and he was warmly greeted. Rick Shaw of WQAM Tiger Radio was invited but did not make it but his fast paced video of events of our junior high through college days was shown. The Milander Center for Arts & Entertainment website is at: http://www.milandercenter.com

Sunday May 3, 2015

At 10:30am a softball game & BBQ was held at Miami Lakes Park Field #2, 15700 N. W. 67th Ave, Miami Lakes (north of the Don Shula Hotel). The BBQ food was catered by Miami's own Shorty's and it was delicious as usual.

COSTS

The total cost for both the Friday and Saturday night events were $140.00 per person, which is extremely reasonable compared to other high school reunion events.

The Reunion Committee was headed by our class president John Lund (jlund47@aol.com) and he has established a reunion Facebook page for the reunion. His Facebook page is located at:
http://www.facebook.com/groups/715558565132222/ - it is a public group and you do not have to be a member of Facebook to access the page.

John also established a website that will eventually list every HHS-65 classmate with a list of deceased classmates, those who served in the military, etc. The new official Hialeah High Class of 1965 website is at:

- - - - - - - - - - Reunion Committee Names and Responsibilities: - - - - - - - - - -

Ray Williams (BeachBFan@aol.com), Susan Holderness (stholderness@yahoo.com) and Adele Echinque (cechenique@tampabay.rr.com) are responsible for compiling a master list of our classmates. Please contact one of them to provide your name and contact information and that of any classmates you are still in contact with. Compiling and updating this master list is difficult and mind-boggling after all these years so any assistance given to them would be greatly appreciated. Please go through your address books to search for former HHS-65 classmates and give the above committee members what information you have. We are still missing approximately 900 of our classmates and it would help to have more names and contact information for the next reunion (55th?).

Tim and Nancy Blizzard (twbnlb@bellsouth.net) were in charge of recruiting through Classmates.com . If you are on Classmates.com please contact them.

Stretch Webber (stretch877@yahoo.com) worked on setting up the class website and it is now up and running except for adding all the class names. The website is located at:
http://www.hialeahhigh1965.com/

Jim Pitisci (jhpitisci@aol.com) worked on food and alcohol for Saturday night and also worked with John Lund for the Friday night cocktail party and great dinner at Hialeah Race Track.

Ron and Stacy Sprovero (stacysprovero@gmail.com) were in charge of name tags and a tribute to our classmates who have passed away and also to our classmates who have served in the military. Please send them the name of any of our classmates who have passed away or ever served in the military.

Mary Anne Bridges Worth (mawirth@bellsouth.net) was in charge of decorations/printed programs and she also had volunteers helping her out. The decorations were superb at both evening events with plenty of red and blue everywhere.

Jennifer Whinnery (jmcw1601V1@yahoo.com) and Karen Bradley were in charge of entertainment/DJ/Photography/music, etc.

Mike and Patti Turner (lopatmi@comcast.net) were in charge of arranging the great tour of Hialeah High School and were the liaison to our beloved school.

GO T-BREDS!
