You're right, that's an excellent point. In the 1960's and 70's I thought it was part of the protected wetlands next to the Everglades and would never be developed except for maybe homes every five acres or so. Now it generates some of the worst traffic in South Florida and there is a lack of roads into Miami-Dade County between Flamingo Road (NW 67th Avenue), I-75 and US 27 because no one wanted an arterial road going through their community. All the planners and politicians that allowed this mess should be hung on the courthouse steps.

It simply blows my mind how fast this area would populate into a suburban jungle of concrete and gated communities within 20 years of this photo
