This great old photo clearly illustrates what most of us old-time Miamians vividly remember about Eastern at the airport. And virtually everything in the photo no longer exists except for the former Pan American World Airways hangars at the top of the photo. The Eastern hangar in the foreground was torn down in the early 2000's due to the addition of a new runway due west of it and the entire ramp is now an aircraft parking area for a variety of cargo airlines. My dad and I flew from New York to Miami on an Eastern Lockheed Constellation in 1951 when I was 3 or 4 years old and I clearly remember the flight and being amazed at the clouds going by my window seat.
