"A gentle time that cannot be replaced"??????? 1965??? Why do people constantly wax ecstatic over a period of social unrest, when racism, homophobia, misogyny, etc. ran rampant? With what is happening TODAY in the world, these comments just boggle the mind.

Once again, memories flood the mind. My parents dined here regularly. When my wife and got married, in 1965. We had our wedding reception here at Old Sandia! Wonderful place good food, smorgasbord.. and a lot of it. I too remember the Chianti wine bottle with the melted wax dripping down. The pictures of this place & reception are in our wedding album.
A different time and a different era. I do think we lived, in a gentle time that cannot be replaced.

Mr. & Mrs. Holger Johanssen was the names of the couple who owned the Old Scandia Restaurant.
My memories go back to the mid 1940s, being there for Sunday dinner with my parents and my brother.
I was 5 or 6 years old and I remember going up to the big table to get some food for my plate. It seems I
remember the table having 2 or 3 levels up to the middle. But I'm not sure...it is such a faint but precious memory of long ago. I was saddened to see the the condition of OpaLocka when we visited several years ago.

Wow! Here's a memory! I remember a Viking ship hull filled with smorgesboard goodies. My parents took me here often. I also remember a large Chianti bottle that they kept a candle dripping wax for years. It always fascinated me. But, then I was only about 6 or 7 yrs. old. I remember a magician who performed there too. He would do coin tricks. The husband and wife (anybody remember their names?) were friends of my parents.
