Thank you to David Lamar for contributing this great old image of Mayflower N38A. This Zeppelin airship, construction number C-138, was certificated on 4/22/76 and it replaced the N1A "Mayflower" starting in the 1977-1978 winter season in Miami. It was the last GZ-19 used by Goodyear and it was destroyed in an accident later in 1978 on its summer tour up north in the USA. GZ-19 N38A "Mayflower" was replaced by the larger GZ-20 N3A "Mayflower" and Goodyear's blimp operations in Miami were relocated to Opa-locka Airport because the larger GZ-20 could not operate safely out of Watson Island. The City of Miami Commission denied a lease for Goodyear to operate the larger GZ-20 blimp type from more spacious Virginia Key and Goodyear was forced to use Opa-locka Airport for a year or two until they built a hangar at Pompano Air Park.
