Service Merchandise catalog showrooms

SW Dade County, Florida

Thank you to Duane Zimmerman for contributing an image scanned of his old name tag. Duane says he worked at the Service Merchandise next to the Treasury at about SW 178th Street and Dixie Highway in the south end of the county.

The building where the SW Dade Service Merchandise was located was originally "The Treasury", a dept. store owned by J.C. Penney. It opened in the late 1960's or early 70's. I lived nearby and rode my bike there often. It was at 158th street on the east (northbound) side of U.S. 1. Many years later Home Depot moved in there, before they built a new store across from The Falls at 136th street and U.S. 1 at the south end of Pinecrest, where Zayre's was. The last business I recall in the old Treasury building was an LA Fitness. About 10 years ago Brands Mart built a new store at the south end of the parking lot.
