1970 - aerial view of the Miami Lakes development

Miami Lakes, Florida view map

The development is fairly underway after 8 years of construction. Several lakes have not been excavated yet such as Loch Lomond West, Loch Lomond East, and Loch Isle.

One interesting note is that the old Miami Lakes South roadway is still visible to the west of where they relocated it where it meets Miami Lakes Drive just south of the future Cypress Village Shopping Center. I presume that was done so they could build the several rows of mini-villas between Miami Lakes Drive and Big Cypress Drive to meet demands of others to build and include affordable housing in the development.

Oh, The Barn!!! I used to work there when it was converted to a community theatre. Our drama teacher, Sandra Riley, from Hialeah High School was the director there, so there were many of us high schoolers that volunteered there. I was wardrobe. Some of my fondest memories are from those years.
Vincent D'Onofrio of Law & Order, was about 3 years old then and would sometimes come to the theatre with his dad, Gene D'Onofrio, who was our sound tech. Cool, huh?
