Thank you to Robert M. Baker for contributing this great old image. Robert's dad, Ron Baker, (#7 in the above photo) was a mini stock car racer back in the 1960's and this image is from his collection of photos and papers. This photo was taken by track photographer Bobby Day.
Robert says: "Dad is leading Chops Sweeting (#9) sponsored by Value-Wide. I don't know the results or outcome of this race, but this obviously post-dates the brouhaha over sponsorship and placing in the field. Dad's car was sponsored by Lewis Szuchs, a Hungarian immigrant who opened his repair shop (Lewis' Foreign Car) on Dixie Hwy. and 44th St. probably around 1965. He supposedly rode a motorcycle in the 1936 Olympics, but I'm not sure if he was a competitor. I'll have to run that down. His wife, Catherine, also participated in the Olympics. She apparently ran for local government at one time as her name appears on Dad's car later on as a part sponsor. Dad would go to work for Mr. Szuchs as a mechanic after he left Western Electric."
