1965 - Miami News article about Jones Shutter moving to Hialeah

Miami, Florida

Jones Shutter Products was at 246 NW 29th Street in Miami from at least the early 1950's until the fall of 1965 when they moved to a brand new building at 8105 W. 20th Avenue in Hialeah. I worked at Jones Shutter full-time during the summer of 1965 after high school graduation and then part-time in the fall while attending Miami-Dade Junior College.

While working part-time on weekends I helped move several truckloads of materials from the old plant to the new larger plant. On one trip we lost a large plastic bag of fiberglass rings that were to be sandwiched between see-through fiberglass panels to form what looked like bubbles in fancy shower doors. The bag fell onto the northbound Palmetto Expressway and burst and cars behind us scattered most of the rings into the grass median of the Palmetto. Unfortunately a Florida Highway trooper saw what happened and pulled us over and made us return to the scene to pick up and remove hundreds of the rings out of the grass median.

The building at 8105 W. 20th Avenue was sold in the late 1970's as I recall and it was then occupied by PIECO, a gas pump equipment supplier and then by Horsepower Electric.
