Handwriting at the top is by my father, John M. C. Boyd. His mother, my grandmother, was from Benton Harbor, Michigan, and she married my grandfather, John T. Boyd, on May 5, 1909, in Bismarck, North Dakota where he worked as editor for a newspaper. She was a teacher on Indian reservations in North Dakota and later Iowa. They were in North Dakota until at least 1912 because my dad was born in 1912 in Mandan, North Dakota. His sister Beatrice were born in Braddyville, Iowa in 1914 and his sister Norma was born in 1918 in Albert City, Iowa.
Around 1920 the family moved to Stonington, Illinois and then to Ohio, Illinois,

a small town about 100 miles west of Chicago. He was editor of The Ohio Herald, the town's newspaper, from 1924 until his death in 1937. After his death my grandmother, father and aunts worked to keep the newspaper going until the start of World War II.
