There were seven Buffleheads at Beaudette Park today (2010-03-17). They were not on the main lake, but rather around the corner towards the boat launch where I had never seen any good ducks before. Fortunately I stalked them. It was a sunny day, and I suspect most of the ducks - "Everyduck sp." - seen in abundance recently had left because they were tired of human intruders or dogs on the shore on such a beautiful spring day when the humans emerged after hibernation. After shooting a few pics from afar, I went closer and they flew off.
I have a series of pics of the Buffleheads running on water, then "lift off"! I am so lucky they were in the same focal plane!
