"Everything That Is Exquisite Hides Itself" Gallery

"Everything That Is Exquisite Hides Itself" is an interpretive essay on the cause and effects of the American womens' sexual attitudes. I have spent a good portion of my life living in Europe. Upon returning to the United States I noticed that the sexual attitudes of American women are less open and less accepting than Europeans. This essay is a simple explanation, to myself, of these attitudes . In reviewing this subject I have thought about different causes that may effect these differences. The violent nature of Americans, the religious mores that are placed on us as children, and other atrocities that are forced on us throughout life.
The first half of the series are of the different causes and effects women experience throughtout their lives. (I believe the titles are explanation enough.) In the second half of the series, a flower begins to appears in the images. The flower is my symbol of hope that I believe alot of women hide behind. As the series progresses the flower becomes less significant until it seperates in "Confidence I and II"

This essay is not intended to be a factual statement. It's just a visualization of my beliefs. I don't ask you to agree with them but just enjoy them for what they are......

The technique in this series is one that I have developed. It took 6 months to perfect and hundreds of images destroyed. Because of this I like to keep it to myself. These images are on hand made photopaper and are 22" X 30". My paper is what gives them the unique feature of appearing to be more like a drawing than a photograph. The application is what causes the brush stroke effect.
