Reduced Traffic in Discovery Passage

During the spring and summer months there are over 100 sailings of large cruise ships
in each direction through Discovery Passage, the body of water between Vancouver Island
and the mainland. However none of the big ships are sailing this year because of Covid 19.
So far I have seen only three small cruise ships pass, including this little guy.

The British Columbia government is allowing cruise ships to pass through our waters,
but they are prohibited from docking except to get fuel.

Personally I don't miss the big cruise ships at all. They are impressive when they pass by,
but they have a huge carbon footprint. Also, many marine biologists are concerned about
their impact on whales and other inhabitants of these waters.

Nice perspective and soft lighting. Like the atmosphere with that sky.
During cruising season we have up to three ships at a time dock here.

Great capture of this beautiful blue scene, topped off by such a dramatic sky. And good that the big cruise ships have been banned. V.

Cruise ships are banned from our ports in Australia and I hope will be for a long long time.

The color is so pleasing!
A small cruise ship seems the way to go for me.

Very nice image, as are all of your photographs.

For all whole host of reasons I have never been a fan of Cruise Ships, they are up there with ATVs. So no tears from me. V

One good side effect of the pandemic is nature recovering. I love the dramatic sky. V

A lovely image! It wouldn't bother me at all if those mega-ships avoided all areas like this.

the more modest vessel does not seem so intrusive..perhaps the whole cruise industry will be forced to scale back...commendable format choice here to allow so much seething sky in the image..

This is a gorgeous shot. I share your sentiments; I've always been concerned about the behemoths moving through these waters and their impact on marine wildlife, not to mention the amount of pollution generated.

I like the blue cast from this time of day
