Old glass looks at new glass

Both lenses produce good images, but the
28mm definitely has the edge in build quality
and tactile interaction. The 40mm DX has the
roughest manual focus ring of all my lenses,
whereas the 28mm is super smooth in spite
of its age.

Best viewed at original size.

The older lenses seem more solid. Everything is plastic nowadays.

I love old glass too for it's unique rendering and just that nice feel in your hand to manual focus. But most the new "plastic" lenses, crop or FF are also good no matter where they are made. V

I find the build and image quality on DX lenses is not as good as FX. Plus the quality in general of newer lenses seems to be decreasing with only the top Nikon Glass bearing the "Made in Japan" stamp.

fair play to you opting to use primes in this day of omni-present zoom options..
