When I arrived at the Richmond Marina Bay I found a group of about 30 Western Grebe with a few Clark's lazing around. I must have watched them for about 3 hours mostly preening and flapping their wings before they started their courtship ritual.
It seems to start with a lot of calling and noise making, they go head to head with head bobbing and beak dipping in the water. They stand up moving across the water together and the amazing part is when one or the both of them raise up and race across the water together and go into a dive! Simply beautiful.
Watching these Grebes go thru their courtship ritual was a feast for the eyes and ears.
