My husband had a Mustang like this when we got married in 1967. Not sure about what year it was - perhaps a 1965? It had standard shift and I had to learn how to drive with a stick shift. We kept it for many years and eventually it developed a condition where it wouldn't start in 1st gear. At that time there had been several car thefts in the community so I said to my husband, "We should leave the car in the street so maybe it will get stolen and we will be rid of our problem." That night there was a knock at our front door and it was made by a policeman who had a very stern look on his face. He asked us some routine questions to find out where we had been and eventually told us that the car had been in an accident and was totalled. Another fun thing about the car was that we used to keep lots of bottles in the trunk to add weight so it would have better traction. I don't remember what was in them! That was a long time ago. I just asked him what year it was and he thinks it was a '65, and he told me to tell you that he had driven it in a car rally to Canada over a weekend. I'm going to post a scan of a photo of it when he was participating in a rally.
