Mini-Guppy

Tillamook, OR

The Mini-Guppy is a Boeing 377 Stratocruiser airliner that was converted by Aero-Spacelines into a specialty cargo plane that was used to transport very large items. You can read more about it at: http://www.tillamookair.com/aerospacelines-mini-guppy. There are even larger versions called the Pregnant Guppy and Super Guppy. An image of the whole place can be seen at: https://pbase.com/dlgphoto/image/172711481.

That's one whopping cargo plane....I'm always fascinated by its massive size and it actually looks kinda of cute....really envy you for having the opportunity to photograph such unconventiional planes....V

Not very many 377 Stratocruisers were built only 55. flown in the U.S. by Pan American, Northwest, and a couple by United. I remember seeing these coming and going from the nearby Minneapolis St.Paul Airport in my long past youth

This plane is comically ugly. >:o)
But it has a job to do, so one has to respect that. Cool photo.

what a bulbous beast...framed tightly, paired with the hangar wall, the large scale here is made clear and evident...V
