The Beauty of Waste Rock

Goldfield, CO

I'm not sure if that is the right term, but this a virtual mountain of rock left over after the metal is extracted.

It is pretty in a way... in time it will be filled with grass/weeds and look different.

From the thumbnail I thought you had gone to Teotihuacan. Amazing how it dwarfs the trees. A powerful image. "V"

It used to be called “overburden “ because it was over the desired material to be mined and needed to be removed. I think when bureaucracies got involved it became “waste rock” smaller words for non-mining people. I still am amazed they let this mine in when it's at a spot where so much can go wrong! Look at what the EPA did at the Gold King Mine that fouled the Animas River. Can we trust the gatekeepers? (No)
Any way It is beautiful in it’s own way! V

think your term is correct....intriguing streaks of colour in the mining residue...the mountain's shape reminds of an Aztec temple..
