But a funny story. When we arrived in our room on the 4th floor of the Intercontinental Hotel in San Jose for our last night in Costa Rica, I looked out the windows at the tops of all these great palm trees. I said to Monique, my wife, that it would be just my luck that now a lot of birds will show up since they seem to like the tops of trees like this and there is no way I would get a decent shot through the windows in that light. The windows were really interesting - two sets of very thick tinted glass with about 6 inches or a foot of air space in between. I thought this a very strange thing. Later, toward dusk, all of these parakeets showed up - there were at least 30 or so right outside our window. I took a few shots and then decided to go outside and see if I could get any. Outside you could not hear yourself think - there were hundreds and hundreds of noisy birds. I guess that is the reason the windows were as they were. No one would sleep otherwise. From downstairs, of course, you could hardly see them since the palm fronds were underneath, shielding them from view for the most part.
