While my husband, brother, and sister-in-law enjoyed the beach (you can see them grouped as three about on third the way down in this picture), I decided to be a little more adventurous and climb the Kalalau Trail. The whole trail is 11 miles, but I didn't have that sort of time, so I thought I would go ¼ mile to the first lookout point. This part was not too bad although it was very muddy, fairly steep in areas, and then rocks were very slippery. I worried a bit about getting down. I wasn't wearing proper hiking shoes, but I was wearing some Keenes which were supposed to be all terrain shoes. I kept seeing people coming back covered to their waist in mud. This did not bode well.
