The goddess of victory.
I was up fairly early to head down to the art gallery. There’s a Magnum/Eve Arnold exhibition on
at the moment that I had been trying to get along to see for a while. I had planned to post a new
gallery of people looking at the photo’s, and shots from the exhibit, but given the number of “no
cameras” signs and security guards there, I thought it best to keep it in the bag. Either way it
was a cracking exhibition, one of the best I’ve seen in the Art Gallery.
So I wandered round, looking at the collection, and instead took this shot of nike. This is a
plaster reproduction the gallery owns of the original Hellenic statue, which dates to 3BC. The
plaster reproductions are housed in a pretty spectacular domed hall. It’s beautiful. The
original, like many of the finest examples of Greek art, isn’t in Greece. It’s in the Louvre.
