01-05-05 rose

One of the benefit’s to living at home with my Parents is that there’s never a shortage of flowers
in the house. This always helps if you’ve no intention of going out and instead relaxing at home.

The shot was quite difficult to set up. The Oly really struggles with strong colours such as deep
reds, or yellows. To compensate I had to shoot in TIFF to preserve the detail in the flower.
Bracket up a couple of stops, and once the camera had metered, shade the flower to “drain” some of
the light, and resulting colour. Once I got the shot it was a case of cropping it to a square
shape, cloning out some annoying breaks in the petals in the corners, and posting. Voila!

Beautiful deep color and shadows.

Great DOF, Dom. Great DOF, Dom. Great DOM, Dof...DOH!
Seriously, what strikes me about the image...other than the vivid color, is the angularity of the rose's interior. Appears almost like an origami of a rose rather than the real thing. I think that's cool :)
