Hogmanay is the Scottish name for New Years Eve, and has become synonomous with the ensuing party,
rather than just the day itself. In Scotland it's an excuse (as if we ever needed one) to throw a
party. This usually involves drinking as much as possible, as late (or early if you want to look
at it that way) as you can. Usually we finish up going to bed around 5am.
This year was different, we had planned on having the party with friends at a remote farmhouse. But
events conspired against that for us, and we had to change our plans. In this case we decided to
pay a visit to the Stonehaven Fireball parade. We hadn't done it before, and thought it was something
memorable to try. It was fantastic. Stonehaven, is a fairly large town just outside of Aberdeen -
about 15 miles away - situated on the sea.
The photo was taken a couple of minutes before the bells, whilst we were waiting for them to light
up the fireballs.
