Whitecliffe Street Level Crossing

This is a 3-D modelling project I started at the beginning of October 2007 (I'm specifying the year because it might take some time to finish!). It represents a fictitious level crossing, but is heavily inspired by the level crossing that crossed the middle of Saxmundham station during the steam era. To give an idea of how it will look when finished, I've made a small* layout centred on the new model.

This is a work in progress, so there are still one or two issues to be resolved. The white of the gates and the red of the warning disc are too bright at the moment, for one thing, and I may well realign the gate support. That being said, these pictures give an idea of how things stand at the moment. More information about this project, and others, can be found at my Saxham Market 3-D Virtual Models web page.

Modifications I might make do not include an animated level crossing keeper to open the gates, by the way.

*"Small" in the sense of "the scenery doesn't extend beyond the bounds of these images".

Picture added 21 January 2008: When I re-examined the photographs I'm using as the basis for this project, I noticed that I hadn't modelled the correct arrangement of the diagonal tie between the tall posts and the gates. The new picture shows the corrected arrangement.
