Photographs of 70013 Oliver Cromwell at the head of the "Broadsman" steam special from London to Holt, photographed at various locations around Norfolk.
The Broadsman was a 1950s through service to London Liverpool St from the North Norfolk coastal town of Sheringham. This steam special recreated that route, albeit that the London - Norwich leg of the journey was King's Cross - Cambridge - Ely - Norwich, because of difficulties in working around regular traffic on the Liverpool St - Ipswich - Norwich route.
On this occasion there was less flexibility in the train's timings than is usually the case with steam specials, since this train was scheduled to be the guest of honour at the re-opening of the Sheringham level crossing that afternoon. Having performed that role, the train continued along the preserved North Norfolk Railway to Holt.
