This was a hike up bloody point creek bed that is a deep canyon (100ft + sides) that runs up the side of the mountain. It is called bloody point because it is said that for several days, the river flowed red with blood after English and French settlers had massacred thousands of Carib Indians in 1626. This marked the end of the Carib occupation in St Kitts. The purpose of the hike was to repair\replace the ropes used to assist hikers in climbing up parts of the trail that are steep and dangerous. The creek bed is mostly dry until there are heavy rains, then it is a raging river and it is unhikeable. There is a bat cave half way up the trail where bats roost during the day. A few were flying about in the darker parts of the canyon. After passing the bat cave we smelled pot smoke, and then heard some rustling in the jungle above. A rock rolled down, we stopped and another came down closer to us. Doug yelled to let the people know that someone was down there, they replied by striking him in the ear with a rock! We took cover and decided to move up the trail as fast as we could not wanting to start a rock war and end up like the Caribs. It was probably just some kids smoking weed and thought it was funny to scare us. We never saw anyone or had any other problems during the hike. We replaced the 2nd rope with a new one and left the 1st for now.
