Not so much of a day as a couple of hour drive. We slept ‘til 9:30 or 10, then spent the day re-arranging. I had to go by the post office and mail 2 packages to China and one to South Korea (cameras - AX and 167MT - and a lens sold on ebay). Chickened out and sent as merchandise with the full price (so I could insure them) rather than just sending as a gift less than $50. I’ll probably get the cameras back now because I didn’t send a proper commercial invoice. Also tested out the new Garmin Street Pilot 2620 GPS system (shipped overnight to Placerville after the first was delivered DOA to Hercules the day before). Drained the battery on the Pilot, so when we finally loaded everyone into it about 3pm and I went down the driveway to video it, I got a wave summoning me back to here click-click-click and flashing instrument lights and needles. Kimberly & I thought it must be the starter (I said, nah, couldn’t be the battery) so we called AAA to come and look at it. The girls went shopping ad left me to wait - fair enough I suppose.
Well, the AAA guy took longer to find our place after first stopping then driving by than he did to fix the problem (the battery), so about 4:30, with the motor running anyway, I packed up Jed (sleeping) and headed of to find the girls. A brief stop when I caught up with them at Albertsons, good byes to Irma Jean, and we were finally on our way about 5pm.
An hour or so up the hill, and then just back down the descent into Tahoe, we turned to the right to take the shortcut south and east into Nevada. Drove though some beautiful mountain country and the West Carson River farmland (cattle) to arrive at Gardnerville. A short stop for diapers and a Jack-in-the-Box meal, and we headed south, crossing back into California, destined for the town of Lee Vining by Mono Lake, where we arrived about 9:30. Went to bed at the Best Western Lakeview Lodge accompanied by the hooting of owls in the trees outside.
