oh!! I can now come out of the shoe closet!!! I've been wondering for years about lost shoes. How does one loose one shoe... weird.

Great Idea. I am a scuba dive instructor and we do island beach clean up activities every year where I live. By far the most trash we collect are shoes, mostly one of a pair of course. Shoes are far more common than for example plastic bottles, plastic bags, lighters, glass bottles.

I have been puzzled by this phenomenon for years. I started keeping a written log of the shoes I see in my purse in a small notebook. I have it listed with type of shoe, date and area I found it in. Recently a friend of mine and I have started taking pictures of them. I'm glad to see I am not the only one out there that thinks this is strange. ~A

It has become a life long mission of mine to figure out where the lost shoes come from and why......and how do people not notice they lost them?? I'm so glad I'm not alone hahaha....

I just caught this site off a link from a cnn article. This is great! Recently, I was visiting my brother in Chicago and I couldn't believe how many times we ran across homeless socks. I advised my brother to start collecting them, while wearing rubber gloves of course, and display them somewhere and call it art. Great minds.....;)

My mother once lost a shoe in Germany while traveling with a bunch of her girlfriends. They were driving cross the country and did a driver switch on the highway. The shoe must have fallen out during the switch because once they reached their destination, it was gone. This site just adds to my curiosity...what happened?

I too am fascinated with this street pollution. How does it get there?, are they missed?, what happens to them over time. I actually started "collecting" them, and have them in my garage. Mostly men's shoes, and Nike's, I have observed...and even some expensive ones...Air Jordan’s, etc. Interesting to find out how many others have this same intrigue. : )

I too am fasinated by the lost shoe. They are just so mysterious where did it come from why didnt they know they had lost a shoe what is the other shoe doing now. Its amazing.

Thank you for this site and photos -- I thought I was alone in my shoe-watch hobby. For several years I've been enjoying shoe-sitings in Ohio; most have been on the side of a highway. I've often thought about taking pictures but never been able to, as I was driving at the time of the sitings. Behind every shoe there is a story...
