The hand-written letter.

I haven't received a genuine hand-written letter in so long, I can't
remember the last one. My mother, at age 82, has decided her New Year's
Resolution is to start sending hand-written letters to her friends
and loved ones once again. (She used to do this faithfully years ago.)

And so, I received one of her first. I absolutely love reading (and
re-reading) a hand-written letter. It's curious because the same message
if put in an email would be read, digested, and quickly forgotten.

I'm going to save her letters. They'll be a treasure to re-read in years to come, as well.

What a wonderful thing for your Mom to be doing. There is something very special about receiving a hand written letter ... maybe it's the tactile thing. I suspect that experience will be sadly lost to our kids.

yes, save them. My grandmother used to send me hand written letters (long before computers were popular) and since she has passed, these letters remain. I swear I can hear her as I read them. They will be with me forever, worn and torn, they are all that remains.

Great idea!

isn't it impressive how we perceive something that used to be mundane & is now unusual and precious

Your words are so true Gary.
You will treasure each word, each letter, for a lifetime.....

With a good software and a good printer, you can probably process 100 emails a day to make genuine looking letters, don't you think?
Yes, it is a endangered species, indeed!

I always felt a good ole handwritten letter is more from the heart than one typed on a computer. There is more soul in a handwritten letter, and obviously much more time invested. I have many from a loved one of mine that today are treasures to me. .....beautiful picture and sentiment!

I totally agree. It is wonderful you will be getting these from Mom to treasure and save. Will you be writing back in kind?

Keep them safely tied with a ribbon and in a special box of some kind. They will be treasured memories for you for so many more years to come and to your children as well and their kids! Wonderful!

That's wonderful Gary. I love email, but agree that I get more pleasure from a handwritten letter - though I don't get them nearly so often.

We are such strange creatures, no matter what is invented we love to go back to what it was....they will be lovely treasures to keep.
