End of an era...

They are taking away our telephone poles. All the wires are
going underground. This will make a remarkable difference in
the appearance of this neighborhood, first built in the 1920's.

The guy in the photo is super strong. Once he gets a good grip
on the pole, he just LIFTS and voila! Up it comes. It's quite
something to see. Then his mates grab the loose end and carefully
load it into a flatbed truck, which is the truck on the right side of the image.

Wow, it's hard to believe that he can lift the pole by himself.

Back in 1969 as a trainee telephone engineer, I can assure you there is nothing as good as sitting on the top of a tall pole, admiring the view. I never had a camera in those days, which is a great shame, I saw some lovely sights.

Wow, that would have been something to watch! I wonder if he does the Caber toss at Scottish events.

You've got to be well practiced to handle a pole that big 8->
