Today is my 55th birthday. To celebrate, I decided to pedal from the
fountain at Balboa park (in the background, and unfortunately, turned off
for cleaning) to the lighthouse on Pt. Loma.
It was a glorious, spectacular day for cycling in San Diego. I got to the
fountain, snapped a shot, and off I went, through downtown, along the
harbor, past the airport, and out onto Pt. Loma.
Unfortunately, I made a navigational error there and found myself at the
end of Rosecrans, facing a submarine base. They did not think it prudent to
allow me to peddle through to get to my chosen destination.
I found out how to backtrack and head for the lighthouse, but by this time
I had to pay attention to the clock, so I had to abandon my original goal
this time around. I returned to the fountain, snapped another shot, and went home,
25 miles altogether and a Great Feeling of Being Alive throughout my body.
I would have posted a picture ofd the fountain, but it was turned off, and
I would have posted a picture of the lighthouse, but I never saw it. Oh well.
Cycling beats ice cream and cake (but not by much!).
