News: The Good Kind, and the Bad Kind

On Sunday, I rode a personal best 32 miles on my new Trek 3900.
Monday I was exhausted and didn't ride. Yesterday, although still
sore, I decided to take a short ten miler to stretch things out once again.

I found the bike in the condition you see above. The bad news?
I have a flat in the front tyre (less than 400 miles on it)! The
good news? It didn't manifest itself until I got home (I could have
been miles from home!).

I have the mechanical aptitude of a banana slug. I've been fearing
what would happen when I got my first flat out in the field somewhere,
and now, I get to practice changing a flat in my own living room, with a
cold drink nearby and a book: Bicycle Maintenance for Dummies.

No ride today, unfortunately.

Haha...I`m not laughing at your bike`s misfortune...at you!
Hope you got it fixed and are ready to roll once again!

One of your best shots so far.
After this, who cares about the tire? Am I any encouraging?

Now just how weird is that that we both have PaD bike pics practically same day. LOL
I've had lots of flats on my skinny-tired road bike and usually in the middle of nowhere. I can fix them okay but you always expect another one right after. A couple of weeks ago I had a major front-tire blow out just as I arrived at the bottom (flat straight) part of a hill and I just managed to keep it all right side up while I stopped. I thought the gods must have been looking out after me that day because if it blew a few seconds before.. :o(
Jeesh - this is a long comment ..chatty-me today :o)

Yes I agree you were lucky of having this at home instead far away!!!
I still think is a healthy hooby, althought.

lucky!!!
that is my greatest fear as well....a flat tire kilometres away from home. (sorry buddy....we're into the metric system). :)

Bad news Gary!!

Tyre...you wrote tyre...wow, that impresses me as much as your long haul :>)
They just don't make those things like they used to....Be thankful you weren't on my Hay Plain, it's 260 kilometres to the nearest town.

The good thing is, though, its only flat on one side!

Just a note Gary, there are inexpensive inserts that go in-between the tube
and the tire to help prevent flats. Where I live, a tiny sand spur can cause a flat.

Mechanical aptitude of a Banana Slug...lol! You're right, very good that it didn't happen elsewhere leaving you stranded in the middle of nowhere. Though just a documentation of what has happened, I agree with Autumn Sky in that the composition is an interesting one...I like. :) And 32milies...quite impressive!

You have beem lucky so far! Always carry a spare tube!

Not good

Oh man, I get flats all the time (I commute almost daily around 15 miles round trip) . You gotta get a spare tire tube, tire pry thinges (forget what they're called) and portable tire pump. Gary, this shot is wonderful... very attractive composition.

Tyre huh?
Just what side of the SD channel
do you live near Gary...?
;^)

For me this would go on the good side. No ten miler, much less 32. Give your saddle sores a bit of time to recover, then go get 'em again.

Give me your tire(d), your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming [Trek 3900] shore.
Send these, the flattened, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my camera beside the golden floor!"

Thank you so much for reminding me that my bike has turned into a trellis.
