I'm In...

The proposed challenge this week is to use only one lens, and one
focal length. See http://www.pbase.com/dazedgonebye/image/43449285
for more inspiration.

Here's a Wannabe: http://www.pbase.com/image/43461978

I've chosen the 50mm 1.8, AND I won't be cropping either. What you
see will be what came out of the camera (in terms of composition)
but I'm reserving the right to post process!

Why not crop? Well, what's the point of sticking to one lens and one
focal point if you then crop madly afterwards? Might as well have
zoomed in!

Anyway, that's just my own rules for the week. This should be fun!

other sizes: small medium original auto

This version is better: its colors are more pleasing. The knot looks like a double Windsor. It has been about thirteen years since I regularly wore such stuff. The company I worked for went through a big culture change to ease up on its dress code: even the concept of "casual Fridays" took a while to be accepted. Old habits die hard.

Love this...the hair on your chin and hands add alot to the shot. The dark blues are great. The composition is what makes it though...fantastic and extremely simple.

Not a Bad idea... and it get's better by using a Prime.. lol this is where the 50mm will either upset you, or make you happy..

something people will say..
What da ya mean step back more......Am I not in the frame ....? lolololol...

Very sharp and clear, nice colors. The dark blue shirt and the graying beard of the elderly gentleman make for nice contrasts:-)

Well, I can already see that this is going to present some interesting things! You need to re-center next time! Seriously, good comp and sharpness. Do you keep a diagram on the wall to refer to for tying the tie?

Fascinating shot here. Too bad we can't see the lips pursed like men do when tying a tie--do you do that?
Karen Leaf17-May-2005 02:43
OMG I didn't mean that the way it sounded.
Karen Leaf17-May-2005 02:43
Good clear shot Gary, I'm glad the end of that tie isn't around some beam overhead, lol!~
I'm with Gayle about men and ties, I like to see them being taken off, tho.

You know, there's something about a man tying a tie...
Nice photo. As soon as I get home to my lenses, I'm playing too!

I think that's four of us who are going to use the 50mm all week.
I like this shot, as long as you weren't trying to take a picture of your face.

I'm from the one-lens school anyway but my one lens will have to slightly zoom...!
Robin Reid16-May-2005 18:54
So you tied into our plan. Could be knotty, and if you fail you will feel blue.
Beyond all the puns I think this is quite excellent, and shows talent in taking it w/o using your hands!
And your enthusiams about the Canon 50mm lens is why I bought one. So we are head to head on this one old buddy.
