100 Meter Freestyle Relay

Shot from across the pool. (Duh!)

This is my daughter Lyndsey, diving in to start the second leg of the race.
The girl who started the race is in the water, about to come out. I have
another picture in my PaD Wannabe gallery which is probably better from
a technical standpoint, but this one is of MY daughter, so it has to go
here!

Take a peek. Did I choose the right shot?

Hey Gary
I meant to comment on this photo a while ago, but didn't get the chance to... been away for the weekend.
Anyhow, I just wanted to say that this was a great image. I am really glad that you are so involved in your daughters lives, and you take the time out to share this with the rest of us. The sentimental value of this image is great.
I have to say I always look forward to seeing these images from you..

Excellent choice!
Perfect timing, too!
I like the look of intent on the guys sitting behind Lyndsey ...

There's a lot of action in this and the boys squinting into the sun is interesting. Kelly doing the butterfly is probably a technically better photo. They're both good action shots. You went with the right choice.

Perfect timing! Great capture - and yes, the right shot.

If the other one is kind of "Sports ilustrated" this is kind of "Father`s heart" I`m completely agree with you, this is your PaD, where your heart is!!!
Guest 23-Apr-2005 21:05
Definately this one ! its the foot out of the water that does it for me!!!
Cindy23-Apr-2005 15:25
I like them both, the timing is perfect for both shots, you chose the right one for PAD, as you said, she is your daughter. :-)

I think you picked the right image Gary! Hey, for the first time I just read your pbase login name, digitalgee!! Clever!

She looks beautiful & she's your daughter, so of course she should be your first choice for PaD...Hmm, is she having ideas of taking on our Aussie gold medal holder girls in 2008 !!

Hey, my daughter's on her high school swim team too.
Uh, didn't you get rain today?
Nice action shot. The other one is great as well. I will make no judgements as to which is "better".

Gary, I agree tend to agree with James (thanks for including both photos) ...
I think that the one that draws you to continue to "study" the technique is the swimmer. However, your daughter seems to have crowd approval. Congratulations on BOTH!

Awesome catch Gary. For a minute I thought you were standing the middle of the water! I assume a crop, just at the right place to get the pool length defined. The kids in the back squinting show the light on Lyndsey hasn't been messed with, the first girl's foot coming out of the water indicates a good strong last pull; this makes me want to be 16 again, in competition.
Now about the dive: looks like she pushed off a little too hard on the right foot, her body may be -slightly- angled giving her a little too deep a dive. We used to have to have a pocket of air under our belly, (I used to have to critique the meets too :) ) You GO girl!

Gary,
This one is great. But I feel the other one is a stronger image. It is also a action shot, better composition, tighter crop, bolder colors, and the diagonal lines of the lane floats just tops it off. My two cents.
Robin Reid23-Apr-2005 04:45
Besides being your daughter, this one puts the action more in context. Catching her in the dive is excellent, and I like seeing the guys in back watching.
That lens seems tobe working well for you.

Congratulations Gary. It feels great to share with our kids their activities!
