April 19

I'm about to throw in the towel on PBase again. It's just too blanking slow.
Don't tell me it's my computer - it happens on any computer I've logged on - even in hotel business centers in different towns.
It took nearly 8 minutes to log onto my home page today. EIGHT minutes.
Commenting on other folks' photos is a nightmare. Grass grows more quickly. Paint dries more quickly.

So, we'll see. It's not about the paltry $23/year.
It's about the fact that I've had this problem FOR YEARS
and nothing ever gets done (and yes, I've tried to bring it to someone's attention time and time again).

Canon EOS 50D
1/80s f/3.2 at 50.0mm iso100 full exif

other sizes: small medium large original auto

Hi Gary, I do sympathise. I had a year of verry sllloooow PBase, and then it get better for no apparent reason. I have looked at other sites and may well move to SmugMug. If you do move, let us know where!

This is very strange, I never find it slow, my account opens in a few seconds, 30 seconds would be about the longest.
My comments are almost instantaneous.
I have uploaded about 10,000 photos and never found it taking too long.
I hope this slowness never happens to me.
Will miss your comments Gary, they are always good.

Gary, I opened a second account 2 years ago...while my first remains in the Tortoise Race I have never had a speed issue with this 2nd account...just a suggestion so we don't lose you again :)

Gary, are these SEALs in training? pBase pees me off every once in a while , but for the most part it is just not practical for me to move. The speed really has not been intolerable and their new edit capability is an improvement. All my marketing literature has this site as a point of contact and that would be tough for me to change, now.

And I like this shot. And Royalld make me laugh re his critque of their marching/running skills.

I'd hate to see you leave. My experience is somewhat different re speed. Could it have anything to do with the number and size of your pictures.?

I would really hate to see you go Gary, I love your sense of humor and your photography. Pbase for me has not been bad at all. Not saying you aren't having problems, but I can honestly say, it has been fine for me.

I sympathize with you, Gary. When PBase was abysmally slow for me (late 2006-early 2007) I looked for an alternate photo-hosting site and decided to use Flickr for most of my images and reduce my PBase activity to a trickle. Since then PBase's speed has improved, but not enough.

Most of the time Flickr has been blazing fast---two or three seconds to get to my Flickr "home page" (but I stay logged in all the time---maybe that would not work for you). On weekends it slows down a little, which is understandable. Its image-editing function (titles, captions, etc.) is MUCH faster than the one in PBase.

Flickr, like every service, is by no means perfect---some aspects of its user interface really suck---but in general I much prefer it to PBase for getting work done. Flickr gives you unlimited storage space for a flat rate of $25/year. And Flickr is structured around the idea of community, whereas PBase is more of an "every man for himself" service. One downside: I think one has to have a Flickr account to comment on an image.

Learning how Flickr operates is a challenge, so I'd be happy to explain it to you on the phone. Send me a PBase message if you are interested.

I can hear the cadence now. It's been fairly good for me for a while now, PBase that is.

I have a hard time getting to my home page but don't have a difficult time commenting. Nice shot of these guys.....getting ready.

Off and on here. Mostly better lately but still very unpredictable. I find I leave more than I used to and just come back when it's good. It was impossible from my smart phone this weekend. I think they must be tinkering behind the scenes but then again how can we ever really know for sure?

BTW... I found three of these troops out of step... They had better shape up if they are ever going to find Bin Laden.

Pbase is slow, Gary. However, I just spent five months traveling at an average speed of six miles per hour ... so a slow web-site doesn't wrangle me as much as it used to (yet).
