Summer Hail

Most of our thunderstorms here in Western North Carolina feature hail. This was a particularly brutal storm which brought a power outage for a few hours when a nearby transformer was hit by lightening. Bill discovered one of the storms victims when he opened up the garage door! Click on "next" to see it.

Now that would be my worst nightmare in the summer as I've experienced that kind of hail before.

Not the best way to cool things off. We had some hail also a couple days ago.

Wow, I have never seen that before in person. They say some has fallen in mountain areas in PR.

When we had our last power outage I tried unsuccessfully to get Bill to agree to let us have a natural gas generator put in. We have a very small gasoline generator that has to be filled every couple of hours. We have had at least three times since we've been here when we've been without power for a few days...and when there's no power we don't have water since we need an auxiliary pump to get the city water up the hill where we live. There are about 14 families in this community that need that auxiliary and I think we would all have to chip in to pay for a generator to keep it going. This outage was only about three hours.
