At long last, an intelligent flash. Finally sprang for the Canon 580ex and am finding I don't have to do as much thinking as with previous less automatic flashes. Don't have to take several test shots before I hone in on a good exposure. Here I was testing out the off-camera cord and put the flash on a LIGHTWEIGHT light stand. Emphasis on the "lightweight" because it easily tipped over from the pull on the curled cord that attaches it to the camera. (That's why I saw an assistant carrying what looked like sandbags on the instruction DVD for the flash. Well worth the $20 price for that DVD, by the way.) I pointed the flash at the side of the cat opposite to the sliding door, which gives lovely light on one side, but requires some sort of fill light on the right. A smaller aperture would give me greater depth of field. There were some tell-tale shiny reflections of the wood, but I either cloned or patch-tooled them out.
