Liver Cookies for Dogs

A great motivational treat. These, plus an understanding of "Stay" can make for great pictures!

Wonder-Working Liver Cookies

1 cup flour
1 cup cornmeal
1 tsp. garlic powder
½ cup wheat germ
1 lb. raw beef liver

Put liver in food processor and liquefy. Add dry ingredients and mix well. On greased cookie sheet drop 1 tsp. of mixture and flatten with bottom of glass dipped in water. Make your job a lot easier by using the smallest cookie scoop you can find. Looks like an ice cream scoop. Bake at 350° for 15-20 minutes. Cookies should be dry but not rock hard. When they're cool break into smaller pieces. Store in freezer until ready to use.

Note: If using a blender, cut the liver into 1" x 3" pieces and blend about 1/3 lb. at a time. If you don't want to separate cookies by the drop method, you can also spread the dough in a rimmed cookie sheet. Cover about 2/3 of the sheet. Because the dough is very stiff, it will not run to the rest of the sheet. Sprinkle with cornmeal and bake. Cut into 2" squares immediately upon removing from oven. (I didn't like the results from this method. Mine were too thick.

Update: I now use the sheet method exclusively and cut it into tiny morsels to use as treats. I keep them in the freezer.
