The spike at the right shows this picture is overexposed. If you check the histogram before you take you shot (in cameras like the Sony which have live histograms) or after you've taken the shot, you will know if you picture is properly exposed. In an image like this one there would be blinking black spots on the lcd in playback in the Canon dslrs. Also, the horizon could be straightened in this one.
